Virgo and “Small Animals”
Virgo and the 6th house are associated with “small animals.” Some astrologers give the 5th house rulership over pets, perhaps because cats and dogs are supposed to be entertaining. I’m sticking with the 6th because of the stewardship of health and well-being (Virgo/6th) required to give an animal a good life. There are plenty of folks who do view cats and dogs as entertainment, though, and they can be quick to get rid of an animal once it ceases to please them or starts to have health problems. Our shelters are full of such abandoned pets. Virgo considers the health and well-being of the animals as a prelude to their role as companion or pet and as a continuing responsibility.
One of my most rewarding experiences was serving on the Board of Directors of my local humane society. It was also one of the most frustrating. Education of this rural community has been an uphill battle. Just like most cities and towns, we have had our share of horrifying examples of animal abuse, dog and cock fighting, and hoarding of animals. This is NOT a 5th house issue. If you have an inclination to volunteer at an animal shelter or with any kind of animal organization, I urge you to follow that calling.
Transits to the 6th house might bring issues concerning your pets to the forefront. I’m always especially careful during transits to my 6th to take extra special care of the four-leggeds around my house. Things have popped up in the past, and if history serves…
If you’re thinking of getting a cat, please keep in mind that June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month ~ and do consider taking an older cat. Their temperaments are easily measured by the staff at most shelters. If you’re in New York City, maybe Luna is waiting just for you.

Your Closet ~ A Monitor for Your Health?
Do you need a closet organizer? If you do, now’s the time to get one and straighten out your closet. Maybe you don’t need an organizer because you already have one, but your closet’s a mess anyway. It’s quite possible that messy closet is a monitor for your health ~ physical or mental.
If your closet is a mess, it might be that the clothes don’t fit you anymore. Is that messy closet a way to avoid the issue of weight losses or gains? Maybe you’ve changed and your wardrobe just doesn’t express the real you. Who is, or who was, the person who’s clothes got pushed to the back of the rack or wound up on the floor?
If you don’t have an organizer, you’ll probably find that they make everyday life a bit easier to manage. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on one. You can actually get them on the cheap. Virgo will be grateful for wise budgeting. Virgo loves boxes, btw, so put some attractive ones to good use. Gemini will appreciate seeing all that clothing you own become easily accessible for when just the right mood arises. And Venus does enjoy standing back and admiring her beautiful possessions before she adorns herself. Whatever shall she wear?
My closet is a mess and I’ve been threatening myself with tearing it apart for quite a while now. Here’s a good two days for straightening out the mess and learning something about the woman who owns all that stuff ~ who she was and who she is now.
Organized or not, always remember…
At the Table…
Love it or hate it, oatmeal is good for you. Oats belong to both Mercury and Virgo, so how can you go wrong with Gemini/Virgo on this one?
Did you know that you can cook a big pot of oatmeal and keep it in your refrigerator? It’s good for about a week and saves you tons of time if you’re a die-hard oatmeal eater. Cook up a batch of your favorite brand, scoop it into individual containers, add a dollop of honey, some cranberries and walnuts, or whatever suits you. Throw it in your bag to take to work for breakfast and warm it in the microwave. Add a little milk or cream, and you’ve got yourself a cheap, tasty, hearty, healthy breakfast. You’ll save money and your body will love you for it. (See 5 Benefits of Oatmeal for Breakfast at Healthy Cooking.Suite 101.)
If you prefer your oats in cookie form ~ go for it. And if you prefer your oats wildly sown, go for that, too!
…and in the Garden
I’ve mentioned before that Virgo loves vines. If you have an ivy plant in your home or if it’s covering your yard, this is a good time to tend it. They are the most forgiving plants I’ve ever owned and are able to endure the most horrid growing conditions. Spruce yours up a little while the Moon is in Virgo, or gift yourself with one of these evergreens gems.
June 17, 1:41am ~ June 19, 4:13am

1) My closet is a total mess. My whole room is a total mess. Of course it’s psychological- I live in my childhood room right now. But it could be worse- at least there are no porcelain baby dolls or limited edition Barbies or creepy teddy bears. And no Joan Crawford beating me with wire hangers.
2) I hate oatmeal. I got totally sick of it because during the behavioral trials in the lab we used oatmeal as a reinforcer for the rats. SO VIRGO OMG. I think I’ll have a bran muffin.
You know how you can’t resist The Craft? I can’t resist Mommie Dearest. I watch it every time I come across it. Faye was so out there. That moment was pure movie magic.

Thanks to Molly Hall, I have been enjoying your blog for the past several months.
After much nodding and mmhmming and a giggle or two while reading this entry, I just had to comment.
I have Jupiter , Uranus, Pluto, and Pallas in Virgo in my Sixth House, with Jupiter sitting right on the house cusp.
Here is Virgo at work in my life at the moment:
#1 My closets and other storage areas are in order, the kind of order that makes others ooo and ahh (and look at me with mild suspicion; ).
#2 When KittenKat jumped over our fence last autumn and refused to leave our yard for days, we knew we had been chosen. I researched cat food types and brands and chose the ones I found to be healthiest. I also created a nightly “treat” of pumpkin and plain yogurt to balance his sensitive digestion.
#3 The domestic and wild animal shelters in my area receive much of my charity.
#4 I had to restrain myself from doing a happy dance when I found McCann’s Irish Oatmeal on closeout a few weeks ago. Of course, Jupiter convinced me to buy four cans! I even have a small slow cooker dedicated to cooking my steel cut oats and three jars with different fruit/nut/spice mixes to throw in as well. Dee-licious!
I will continue to read your blog with interest and enjoyment: )
How fun, Mari! I’m glad you found some Virgo tidbits here to enjoy. I love the way the signs and houses show up in our everyday lives. The big transits are the astro headliners, naturally, but everyday astrology gets us through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday…morning, afternoon, evening…and on and on.
Ready to go mixes are a great idea, and a dedicated slow cooker is too perfect. Thanks for sharing all this with us, and send Jup back to the store ~ just in case.

I have found that becoming more aware of the seasons and cycles of the earth, sun, and moon has brought a sense of continuity to my life that is both deep and meaningful. Since the beginning of the year, I have incorporated your Zodiactivities into my monthly activity and menu planning along with my lunar phase and seasonal traditions. So far, so very good; )
(Speaking of signs showing up:
My husband just told me that he is heading out to trim our ivy ground cover and our sweet autumn clematis arbor. The sweet autumn clematis may be a bit invasive to be truly Virgoan, but it does provide lovely white, sweetly-scented flowers during the month that the Sun is in Virgo.)
I really appreciate that feedback on the zodiactivities, Mari. Staying in tune with the cycles just seems to make things a little easier. I’m always drawn to the same activities during my lunar returns. I don’t seem to be able to break away from them. Do you notice anything similar?
That too funny about your husband trimming the ivy. Did he come up with that on his own, or did you guide him with Virgo?
I do see certain themes in my lunar returns that pop up time and time again, no matter what else is going on in my life. I have a lot of Cancer and it tends to be activated at my lunar return as well as my 7th house Libra Moon, much as it was at my birth, I suppose.
My hubby noticed the viney overgrowth out of the blue this afternoon.
Ah, so hubby is attuned, too. That must feel good.
My lunar returns always spotlight homey stuff, and I find housework irresistible. Good thing I find it so appealing at least once a month.
