We greet 2014 with a New Moon in Capricorn. Not just any New Moon in Capricorn, though. This one has a stellium, with Pluto, Mercury and Venus joining the Sun and Moon. It’s not a particularly pretty sight, either. It’s got squares. It’s got opposition.
I look forward to New Moons. They hold promise. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to complete a project born into such a configuration, though. We’re blessed with a plethora of Capricorn resolve and determination, but it’s opposed by Jupiter in Cancer, is embroiled in that endless square with Uranus in Aries, and has another square from Mars in Libra.
Does that sound like a catastrophe waiting to happen or what?! I’m not one for passing on a negative message. I like to find something positive in every challenge, but this is all I can find for this New Moon: ME vs. YOU vs. FAMILY vs. THE WORLD AT LARGE. And it looks like it’s the world at large that’s holding all the cards.
(If you were born with a stellium, you should definitely pick up Donna Cunningham’s latest offering: The Stellium Handbook. You’ll learn so much about yourself, your purpose in life, and how to deal with the gifts and challenges a stellium holds.)
Jupiter is retrograde and, while in Cancer, are we more likely to revisit all those family issues that we’re seeing therapists about today? I hope not!
Here’s something interesting about Jupiter Rx in Cancer ~ you might learn something about your heritage that you were in the dark about, and it just might have influenced your personal philosophy.
For those of you making New Year’s resolutions ~ take a look at Saturn in your natal chart. That’s a good place to start.
The Black Moon of January
There’s another New Moon on January 30, this time in Aquarius. Sometimes the second New Moon of a month is called a “Black Moon,” like a Blue Moon in months where there are two Full Moons. This Moon will still be under the stress of Pluto square Uranus, but we’ve lived with that so long that it’s second nature to us now. Uranus sextiles the Aquarius New Moon goosing us toward freer expression and breaking the mold for a few weeks.
Full Moon in Cancer
Sandwiched between the two New Moons is the Full Moon in Cancer at 25º on January 15. This Moon trines the North Node in Scorpio. The N. Node can indicate someone coming into your life, even if just for a while. The Cancer/Scorpio trine indicates that this person could be someone who eases you through some deep emotional issue you’re carrying from your past. Or, we could find ourselves in a mothering mood. Work through any issues that come up instead of repressing them. Repression gets you nowhere. But you know that already.
What Else is Happening during January?
Mercury enters Aquarius on the 11th. Serious conversation takes on a lighter tone, though still logical. New ideas come like lightning flashes. Grab them while you can.
The Sun enters Aquarius on the 19th. It’s all about friends, groups, and networking.
Mercury moves into Pisces on the 31st. Inspirational talk is still around, but now it’s emotional instead of logical.
Venus stations direct on the 31st in Capricorn. She’s still interested in big bucks and serious relationships. Now’s the time to consider the big ticket purchases that are probably still on sale.
